The name "Veronica" stands for very easy rodent-oriented net-wide
index to computerized archives.
- Gopher servers are registered with the "mother gopher" in Minnesota.
- All menu items from registered servers are frequently retrieved
and put in the "index-database".
- If a menu item points to a non-registered gopher server that server
is also searched.
- The content of documents is not included in the database.
- The veronica database can be retrieved by ftp to set up mirror
veronica servers.
- The veronica database can be queried by means of (multiple) words.
One can ask for keywords appearing in titles of documents or for keywords
appearing in titles of gopher menus.
The Veronica
database can be reached at
gopher://veronica.scs.unr.edu/11/veronica.
Queries for Veronica databases can be boolean combinations of
words (using and, or, not and parentheses). Wildcards (using *) are
permitted. A complete
guide
to formulating veronica queries, by Steven Foster, is available at
/00/veronica/how-to-query-veronica on the same server.
